Welcome to Tavern Alvdal

As a traveller you're heartly welcome to the Tavern Hotel and Cafeteria in Alvdal - a natural for travellers throught Østerdalen. You'll find us on highway 3 - the shortest route between Oslo and Trondheim - around 200 kilometres south of Trondheim and just over 300 kilometres north of Oslo.

We have served travellers through Østerdalen for more than 30 years. Through all these years, we have built experience and knowledge that our guests benefit from. In our cafeteria you can choose from a wide menu of both hot and cold dishes. We offer food and drink for most people's needs and occasions. Do you need a longer break, we recommend the hotel, where we offer modern rooms with hotel comfort at reasonable prices. Taverna Alvdal is a good choice for courses and conferences. We have flexible facilities and modern equipment for the purpose. Would you like to have the food catered we do offer that. Our large kiosk provides, among other things, hot food, drinks, magazines, grocery, snacks and a variety of gifts.

Take the time to stop here for a while to sample everything that Alvdal has to offer. Only a small stone's throw away is Aukrustsenteret. In a stunning building, designed by the architect Sverre Fehn, the world's most famous alvdøl, Kjell Aukrust, is presented in a unique and exciting way. In summer you can run all the way to the top of the landmark Tronfjell (1666 m asl) in Norway's second highest mountain road, or you can go to the mountains and experience the beautiful scenery in Alvdal Vestfjell. In winter we have a well-developed course for cross-country skiing. 20 kilometres south of Alvdal is Jutulhogget, an impressive canyon, which is a powerful descendent of the last ice age. From there, it is only a short trip over the mountains east to Rendalen, where you can visit the home of Jacob Breda Bull - the popular Bull-museum. Only about an hour drive north from Alvdal is Røros. This old mining society is on the Unesco World Heritage List.
